Profile:
Patrick (Peng Zhang) graduated from
Pennsylvania State University with an MA degree in Teaching English as a Second
Language (TESL). Before joining Shantou University, Patrick taught courses such
as Composition for American Academic Communication, Building Conversational
Proficiency, TOEFL Listening, and AP US History in the US and in China.
During his graduate school years, Patrick
was an active contributing member of the Multilingual Writing and Research
Group (MWRG), a study and research group aimed at promoting individual and
collaborative research agendas focusing on multilingual writing. He also held
workshops for Penn State faculty and students on “Providing Effective Feedback
for ESL Writers” at Schreyer Institute. His research interest includes
Sociocultural Theory and Corpus Analysis.
Patrick believes that students learn a
language best when they have many DIFFERENT opportunities to practice that
language, and building mutual trust between students and teachers is the key to
a successful and efficient class.
When not teaching, Patrick gets his green thumbs back and enjoys the
companion of his dog, Gûngûn
