After receiving my Bachelor of Arts
degree in English teaching, I started my career as an English teacher in
Guangdong Shantou Overseas Middle School in 2009. To further my
profession, I studied for a Master’s degree in Teaching English to
Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in 2018. This MA program, delivered
at Guangdong Foreign Studies University (GDUFS) by a combination of
University of Leeds and GDUFS faculty, has deepened my understanding of
English teaching by taking courses in Approaches & Contexts in
TESOL, Second Language Acquisitions, Teaching Oral & Written Skills
for TESOL and Language Testing, etc. Eventually, I obtained my
Master’s degree with Merit (Upper Second Class Honor Degree).
For me, one of the most important things I
have learned from my work and study experience is collaboration between
teachers and students, because only when students’ learning and my
teaching go in the same direction can the language classroom achieve the
desired effect. Thus, language teachers must take a self-reflective,
critical and systematic approach to explore our teaching context,
students’ previous learning experiences and learning strategies. My
research interests include action research, lexical chunks, and
communicative language teaching.
